"I found this place by accident. I had actually already booked a Air B&B when I stumbled upon a review for this place. Looking through the pictures it was so unique and charming I knew I had to stay here. Luckily when I sent my husband their website he agreed and I was able to book a room. The only regret I have about coming here was we did not stay longer. We stayed in Room 4. It was HUGE and had the most beautiful view into the center of the little town. The bathroom had all the amenities you would get in a 5 star hotel. HUGE Jacuzzi tub, big sink, blow-dryer, powerful shower, even slippers. Getting up in the morning and being welcomed to a full breakfast of fresh pastries, meats, cheeses, homemade jams, crepes, cakes..it was better then any meal I have been offered at a 5 star hotel. If the amazing furnishings, huge bathroom, and wonderful breakfast was not enough...the customer service just was the icing on the cake. I had forgotten to let Maria know when we would be arriving but she was so kind and sweet about it. She had everything ready. Gave us a wonderful tour, provided wine and chocolates in our room. Asked us where we would be visiting to see if she had any helpful tips. When my husband was wanting the AC on even though it had been chilly she even ran out immediately to a store down the road and bought new batteries for the remote to the AC so he could have everything just as he liked it. I have always stayed away from B&B before, preferring hotels or a full house to myself but Maria changed my mind. This was the highlight of our trip. Do not hesitate to book with her. You will not regret it!"

"We had such a lovely trip to the Palazzo Malaspina. The rooms are stunningly beautiful and ours had a lovely view over the Tuscan countryside. The room and bathroom were spotless and the beds made up beautifully with crisp white sheets. There was a bottle of wine in the room to welcome us. Maria mad homemade cakes and there were crepes and eggs to order for breakfast, all served in the magnificent dining room. There were so many little touches and we were made to feel so welcome we were sad to leave, nothing was too much trouble for Maria and Mary. A little piece of heaven in the Tuscan countryside. Ideal for trips out to Siena and Florence, this lovely B&B is highly recommended."

"We stayed for a second time at Palazzo Malaspina, with Maria and Mary making the breakfast so nice. Romantic rooms just for couples , beautiful view. San Donato is a pittaresque medieval village very close to autostrata beetween Florence and Sienna. Also has a good number of very good restaurants. We did love it and we recommend it."

"If you are going to the Florence/Siena area; you must stay at Palazzo Malaspina in San Donato. Maria is wonderful. The breakfasts are superb. Both Maria and Mary are great cooks. The rooms are good size. San Donato has several restaurants right there (Numero Uno was our favorite). Maria also tells you where to visit. We had several towns selected based on travel guides and she told us which were the ones to see and which to skip. Then she gave us 7 small towns in the Chianti region to visit and they were all spectacular. She also advises you as to where to park in Florence and Siena. We are already planning our return visit!"

"Palazzo Malaspina was the perfect choice for our first trip to Tuscany. Maria Pellizzari, the proprietor and host made our stay one we will always remember . Maria was generous with suggestions for our day trips and excellent with directions. We chose to use Palazzo Malaspina as our home base staying 11 nights because of its perfect location to Firenze, Sienna, Lucca, Pisa, Radda, San Gimignano, Bologna and Assissi. It is easy to find the train in Firenze making travel to Venice and Rome pleasurable (with no problem parking). rnWe felt welcome and comfortable at Palazzo Malaspina in our wonderful room with a view of the Chianti Hills from our balcony. We felt as if we were staying with family. This B & B is a gem in the lovely town on San Donato. There are restaurants in walking distance which are delicious and shops to browse as well as a bar for a quick coffee. A small laundromat is located just a short walk away from Palazzo Malaspino and is very convenient. The building itself is tastefully decorated and cared for with love, and while it feels Old World Tuscan the amenities are modern. We slept in a large bed that was comfortable and our room was spacious and lovely. rnOur morning began each day with an exceptional breakfast . We enjoyed the highest quality of fruits, meats & cheeses along with Maria's home baked cakes and wonderful selection of breads and croissants, home made jams and some mornings she made delicious crepes. Mary, Maria's assistant, is wonderful and provided us with tea , cappuccino, or cafe. She is friendly and we enjoyed our conversations and the helpful information she provided. rnOur hope is to return to Palazzo Malaspina one day to continue our adventure of the Tuscan region of beautiful Italia and to visit with Maria and her lovely husband and family ..... We are most grateful for this fantastic trip and the memories we made here in San Donato and Tuscany. rn. "

"Beautiful building & rooms, it has that romantic feel about it. We went in May and stayed for 3 nights. San Donato is a very small town with hardly anything, but it’s well located in between a few of the other towns like San Gimi, Siena, etc. We picked the balcony room instead of the jacuzzi room. It was a beautiful view, & we especially enjoyed the fresh & big spread of their local specialties for breakfast including homemade jams every morning. I can see why some reviews mention Maria disappearing but it didn’t bother us at all. Honestly, if you are expecting the host to sit down with you & provide guidance/ help, just ask her. She was very helpful to the other guest that actually wanted suggestions. We didn’t ask so it was not raised, which I think is fair enough. Both Maria & Mary were very friendly and helpful. Mary seems shy but was very lovely after a few chats. P/s - restaurant down the road, a few doors away is pretty good"

"We stayed two nights at Maria's Palazzo Malaspina to visit Siena and San Giminiano as well as several vineyards in the surrounding Chianti region. It was a marvellous choice. San Donato in Poggio is a quiet and pittoresque village situated on a hilltop opening a view over a large part of the countryside between Florence and Siena which can be reached by car within 20 to 30 minutes. Maria assured a very friendly communication prior to our visit as well as providing much information and many tips for visits in the area. The palazzo itself as well as the interior of the rooms are antique and very well kept which pleasantly distinguishes them from mainstream hotels. Later, we stayed near Florence to visit that town, but we really should have used the Palazzo Malaspina as the place of rest from which to start out. "
